Recognition given to Nautel for new HD MultiCast+ product and technology demonstration of SFN for HD Radio™.
Hackett’s Cove, Nova Scotia – Nautel products, technologies and personnel were honored with broadcast industry awards at this month’s NAB show in Las Vegas. Attracting more than 104,000 people from around the globe, NAB is the world’s largest broadcast industry convention.
Nautel’s Philipp Schmid, Research Engineer, was recognized for “best paper” at the show’s Broadcast Engineering and Information Technology Conference (BEITC). Schmid presented information on a new solution for Single Frequency Networks (SFN) for HD Radio™. The new method enables two or more transmitters to work together to provide consistent, seamless coverage of HD signals throughout a region, even in areas with challenging terrain.
“With Nautel’s technology, broadcasters can achieve a seamless HD Radio transmission hand-off from one transmitter to the next,” says Philipp. In his paper, Schmid described the field trials of this technology at KUSC, whose signal covers mountainous terrain near Los Angeles, California.
The SFN for HD Radio concept also earned a “Best of NAB 2017” award from Radio Magazine.
Nautel’s new HD MultiCast+ Importer-Exporter combination earned a “Best of NAB 2017” award from Radio World. The first product of its type to include DTS’ Gen 4 HD code, this 2 RU unit includes a built-in multi-channel audio card, GPS receiver, Nautel Reliable HD Transport, software, and station logo support.
“This new product slashes the cost of HD Radio components in half, making HD Radio operation more affordable for stations,” said Kevin Rodgers, Nautel President and CEO, “but it’s more than a combined Importer and Exporter; it’s a comprehensive HD Radio services platform. The HD MultiCast+ has the potential to support services such as multichannel audio processing and audio codecs.”
