The spectrum analyzer, an excellent tool that is becoming more affordable but is also one of the most commonly misused tools in the field… analyzers that are being overdriven can create results that have no bearing on reality, causing no end of challenges when it comes to figuring out what really is being broadcast.
In this session, we look at the spectrum analyzer, discuss the FCC requirements for taking measurements of broadcast signals and talk about the best practices involved in getting the most accurate readings possible, whether using a 100.00 SDR to derive a display, or a high end lab grade instrument. Some of the controls are common from one to another, we talk about VBW, RBW, input attenuation – and when external notches and attenuators are necessary.
