Industry’s first Gen 4 combined Importer/Exporter now offers AM transmitter support; new integral Orban processing supports HD2/HD3 operation for FM.
Hackett’s Cove, Nova Scotia – Nautel’s NAB 2019 roll-out of advanced digital transmission features continues with significant enhancements to the company’s HD MultiCast+ importer/exporter. This product, first introduced in 2017, is the industry’s first product based on Xperi’s 4th generation combined Importer and Exporter code base. The combination, which cuts in half the cost of purchasing individual importer/exporter components, now supports AM transmission as well as FM.
Also new this year is support for integral Orban audio processing for both HD2 and HD3 along with simplified setup of Artist Experience data. The award-winning HD MultiCast+ includes a high accuracy GPS timebase; configurable audio and data bitstream, and incorporates Nautel’s Reliable HD Transport, which reduces overall STL bandwidth requirement and enhances the reliability of exporter-to-exciter data connections. The HD MultiCast+ may be used as an importer, an exporter, or a combined importer/exporter.
“Unlike purpose built embedded solutions, Nautel’s industrial platform provides generous multicore processing headroom to support current in-box applications such as main audio processing, IP audio, and playout automation. HD MultiCast is well positioned to handle yet to be defined HD Radio signal configurations and even more audio services or future applications,” said Philipp Schmid, Digital Systems Team Lead at Nautel.
Unique GEN 4 implementation for AM HD Radio transmission
Nautel is the only manufacturer to support AM HD Radio™ transmission via the use of an exgine to code the hybrid or all digital HD radio signal. The use of an exgine in conjunction with the HD MultiCast+ Importer and Exporter allows the creation of a GEN4 HD Radio processing chain complete with artist experience for both AM and FM applications.
“The HD MultiCast+ provides the ultimate in single box functionality for HD Radio FM implementations and is the industry’s only 4G Exporter for AM,” said Schmid. “Our design goal was to bring greater flexibility and comprehensive services to stations that are in the process of implementing digital operation.”
Nautel is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of AM and FM radio broadcast transmitters. Focused on making transmission worry-free for users worldwide, Nautel provides valuable new solutions for digital radio broadcasting at stations of all sizes. All Nautel transmitters employ advanced control, monitoring and instrumentation tools which simplify management of transmitter sites, both locally and remotely via Web access. More than 16,000 Nautel transmitters have been deployed in over 177 countries since 1970.
