Radio Pretoria Chooses Nautel VS2.5 for Sound Quality, Reliability, Robustness and Remote Control via the AUI
Radio Pretoria is a community radio station broadcasting from the capitol of South Africa. The station operates a network consisting of 10 transmitters. On the 19th of September 2012, the same day that Radio Pretoria turned 19 years old, Vaughan Taylor from Taylor Engineering installed a Nautel VS2.5 FM transmitter at their ‘Kleinfontein’ site close to Pretoria.
The station had recently updated its program schedule and was looking to improve its sound to match the new ‘image’ of the type of content it aired. “Luckily” says Station Manager, Fred Maree “with the new VS2.5 the sound is not only good, it is now GREAT!”
Thanks to the high sound quality of the VS2.5, listeners called for days on end, complementing the station. One listener, Mr. Charles White said “with all my travels in and around South Africa, Radio Pretoria’s sound is the brightest and clearest of all the radio stations.” Maree adds “the professional advice and service provided by Taylor Engineering ensured that there was no other transmitter to consider than a Nautel.”
Since going on air, various setbacks occurred at the Kleinfontein site, ranging from power failures, vandalism, lightning damage to STL problems and power surges. Through all these challenges, however, the VS2.5 just kept on working, like a true workaholic! The equipment has proven itself to be very robust.
According to Emile Deysel, Radio Pretoria’s technical officer, “the AUI is also a big thing for us, being able to make adjustments to the VS2.5 from the office, saving many trips, time and money!”
The back-up USB saved lots of dead air time during the lightning season, when the primary feed went down on a few occasions, and the secondary feed was not operable at that stage.
Thank you Nautel for manufacturing such a reliable transmitter!
