FEBC chooses Nautel for FM retrofit:
FEBC is First Broadcaster in Philippines to adopt NV20
When the Far East Broadcasting Company (FEBC) started preparing for a new transmitter at their Metro Manila station DZFE, the company turned to their longtime business partner Broadcast World Philippines Systems Inc. for assistance in selecting and commissioning the system. “The reliability of the transmitter was an important factor in our selection,” says Chief Technician Ronald Abelilla. “We required good redundancy of critical components and were especially interested in remote connectivity because of the split operation (STL) situations in our network.” Broadcast World recommended the new Nautel NV20, and FEBC became the country’s first purchaser of the product in early 2009.
Offering digital-ready operation, real-time instrument grade spectral analysis, adaptive precorrection for exceptional linearity and an Advanced User Interface with local and remote control, the NV20 represents a major advance in 20 kW FM transmitters. The product is part of the Nautel NV Series of FM transmitters, offering solutions ranging from 3.5 kW to 44 kW. All NV transmitters have an integral digital exciter and offer hot-swap front access serviceability in rugged, compact-footprint enclosures.
Broadcast World provided system integration for the DZFE installation. “This installation was very challenging because we had to install and commission the transmitter in just one day,” said Abelilla. “Broadcast World was very accommodating to us and professional throughout the entire process. They worked late hours to make sure the transmitter was on-air on schedule and to ensure proper operation.”
The new transmitter was dedicated in a formal ceremony in June 2009 which brought together long time supporters of DZFE and FEBC, program and technology partners, and media representatives to celebrate the event. Dignitaries included FEBC President Andrew “Dan” Cura, Broadcast World President Desy Kelly, and the Canadian Ambassador to the Philippines, Robert Desjardins. Demonstrating the remote capabilities of the NV20 transmitter, Mr. Desjardins activated the HD component of the transmitter to the cheers of the crowd.
Abelilla reports excellent results with the NV20. “We are happy about the fact that the NV20 substantially improved our coverage throughout the Greater Manila area,” he says. “We are very pleased with the continued support of Nautel and Broadcast World.”
“FEBC has been long time Nautel users, and we are happy to have our broadcast powered by the first NV20 in the Philippines,” says DZFE Station Manager Tiffany Liong.
