All India Radio Completes Major Project with Final Acceptance of Six Additional Nautel Transmitters

“Building for a Billion” project covers most of the country with DRM30 transmission.

April 19, 2018, Hackett’s Cove, Nova Scotia – All India Radio has provided final acceptance of six additional transmitters ordered last year for the most ambitious digital broadcasting project in the world. The project, which was initiated in 2013 by Prasar Bharati for All India Radio (AIR), was titled “Building for a Billion” and has now deployed a total of 33 Nautel transmitters with the goal of bringing digital radio broadcasting to more than a billion residents of the country.

AIR’s digital broadcasting system uses high-power (100 – 300 kW) Nautel MW transmitters, each equipped for DRM30 transmission, at 33 separate sites throughout the country. Nautel deployed the transmitters in association with its in-country partner Comcon along with Altronic, providing RF test loads, Digidia, providing DRM modulators/content servers and Kintronic Labs, supplying matching systems for the project.

Additional information on the AIR project is available via a Nautel Webinar first aired in fall 2017, which may be found on the Nautel website. To access the Webinar, visit Building for a Billion.
