DRM Continues to Expand Across India

All India Radio continues its digital radio transition as it has announced the launch and testing of new Digital Radio Mondiale transmissions. AIR Jammu and Panaji AIR Panaji did simultaneous broadcasts of analog and digital of their main stations during the first weeks of November. Meanwhile, AIR Bangalore’s transmission could be heard in Russia.

More stations are preparing to begin broadcasting digital as well. AIR Jabalpur has announced that it is set for digital radio transmission, while AIR Mumbai has begun testing in DRM mode on 1044 kHz and the Asmita channel is available on simulcast on DRM mode at 568 kHz.

In addition, the DRM digital radio receiver, AV-DR-1401, from Communications System Inc., is now available on amazon.in.

Ruxandra Obreja, DRM Consortium chairman, welcomes these developments. “This progress will put India at the forefront of digital radio development in the world, concretely demonstrating the advantages of DRM for all listeners, whether in cities or rural areas.”
