Can anyone help me with the internal RDS settings? The manual seems a little less than helpful. I have never done RDS or RBDS before and am clueless. By trial and error I managed to get it to transmit the station call letters but the top line in the display says “No PTY”

There’s a great tutorial, as to what each field represents, at http://www.2wcom.com/fileadmin/redaktion/dokumente/Company/RDS_Basics.pdf

That should help get you started. You’ll also need to convert your call sign to the appropriate format (PTY code) – there are several online converters to do this for you. For the USA, I like http://www.w9wi.com/articles/rdsreverse.htm

Hope that helps!

Hopefully quick question (and answer) ;) – is the RS-232 cable into the RDS/RDBS port wired as ‘straight’ or ‘null modem’?

OK, I got an answer to this – the DB-9 on the back of the NV40 exciter is a female d-sub and the cable required is a straight RS-232 cable (i.e. no null modem wiring or adapter required).
