Nautel Brings Unprecedented Innovation to Low Power FM

Industry firsts including internet audio I/O, Livewire support and a simple path to digital transmission make new VS Series an exciting option for low power broadcasters.

June 15, 2009

Broadcast Asia, Stand 7E2-04 -- Nautel Limited has announced the VS Series of low power FM transmitters. These ultra compact units – using only 2, 3 or 4 rack units including the exciter – bring Nautel’s renowned transmission performance to broadcasters operating on 300, 1000 or 2500 Watts. In addition to the products’ rugged engineering, the Nautel VS Series is the first in the industry to incorporate internet audio I/O and Axia Livewire support in radio transmitters. Customers using the Axia Livewire protocol will be able to connect their livewire networks directly to a VS Series transmitter with a single RJ-45 cable; no intermediary connections or D/A conversions will be needed.

VS Series transmitters have been engineered to withstand the harsh operating conditions that can frequently exist in low power facilities. Common service requirements, such as front panel accessible washable filters, are addressed; even the power transistors are field replaceable with common tools.

Four products are being previewed at the Broadcast Asia show in Singapore:

· The VS300, a 300W FM transmitter (350W maximum) occupying 2 RU of space;

· The VS1, a 1kW FM transmitter (1400W maximum) using 3 RU;

· The VS2.5, a 2500W FM transmitter (2800W maximum) occupying only 4 RU;

· The VSHD, a 2 RU add on unit that allows an easy upgrade to digital radio.

All transmitters in the VS Series include Nautel’s exclusive Advanced User Interface (AUI), which provides presets, logging, and local/remote control of all transmitter functions. The AUI incorporates an instrument-grade audio analyzer and display screens that are easy to set up and read. The transmitters also provide an integral exciter for exceptional audio clarity. Customers who wish to upgrade to either HD Radio™ or DRM® digital broadcasting will be able to do so easily with an optional VS HD add-on unit.

“We are excited to present the VS Series as an option for low power broadcasters who are looking for a cost effective robust transmission solution today but need to be confident that their investment will address future requirements such as internet I/O and Axia Livewire support and digital broadcasting,” said Peter Conlon, Nautel President and CEO. “The serviceability of these units, combined with our industry-leading performance, will ensure the reliability and quality that low power broadcasters need.”

The VS Series transmitters have a projected availability of Q1 2010.
