Nautel Supports Secondary Program Services, Demos at NAB 2005
Bangor, ME (April 18, 2005)
– Nautel is pleased to announce that it will deliver a new HD Radio™
data importer to support Secondary Program Service (SPS) applications
such as NPR’s Tomorrow Radio SM. “We have seen tremendous interest in
Tomorrow Radio among our customer base, and we are committed to
supporting it,” states Scott Campbell, Nautel’s President and CEO.
The new HD Radio data importer allows Nautel’s HD Radio platform to
fully support Tomorrow Radio applications. “The importer is effectively
an enhancement to Nautel’s NE IBOC HD Radio signal generator, allowing
the system to support secondary program services,” explains Tim Hardy,
Nautel’s Head of Development. The secondary audio is encoded
and multiplexed with secondary audio PAD, and sent to the NE IBOC over
an Ethernet connection. This allows broadcasters to split their HD
Radio data between SPS and Main Program Services ( MPS ). Nautel has already begun to take orders for its importer, which will start shipping in the second quarter of 2005.
Nautel will also host a live Tomorrow Radio demonstration at NAB 2005,
booth N2811, April 18 - 21. This live demonstration offers NAB
attendees the opportunity to see the hardware needed for Tomorrow Radio
and to hear the audio quality of the main and secondary audio channels.
