Nautel to Present a White Paper on the Benefits of Digital Adaptive Pre-Correction at NAB 2005 Bangor, ME (April 17, 2005)
– Tim Hardy, Nautel’s Head of Development, will present his white paper
“Improved Spectral Compliance for FM HD Radio Using Digital Adaptive
Pre-Correction” during the HD Radio Technology portion of the Broadcast
Engineering Conference, held during NAB 2005. Hardy will give
a detailed overview of digital adaptive pre-correction, and answer
questions about the importance of this technique for maintaining HD
Radio™ spectral compliance under changing environmental conditions.
The implementation of HD Radio has caused a great deal of discussion
about the spectral re-growth problems that may occur when the digital
'sidebands' mix with the primary FM carrier frequency and create
spurious signals on second, third and forth adjacent channels.
Pre-correction systems can mitigate the effects of the transmitter
system non-linearities that cause out-of-band emissions.
“Conventional fixed pre-correction techniques have not been able to
ensure spectral integrity in a changing environment. Changes in VSWR,
an adjustment in the output power of the transmitter, a change in
amplifier temperature, or aging and failures of RF amplifiers can
result in serious transgressions of the HD Radio mask and interference
with other stations,” says Hardy.
Nautel’s M50 is currently the only exciter capable of providing an adaptive pre-correcting solution for FM HD Radio.
The presentation will be delivered at 5:30 p.m. , Sunday, April 17th at
the NAB Convention Center , Room N110 in Las Vegas , Nevada.
